there were so many fresh ideas in this book and I really enjoyed Binti's perspective, and how the main "superpower" is understanding one another.
I wasn't a big fan of the "mathematical trance" thing, idk it felt weird. If it had just been meditation, it would have been more convincing for me.

L’unico difetto che ho trovato a questo libro è che è troppo breve: spero che arrivi anche in Italia perché chi ama la fantascienza merita di godersi questo gioiellino.
Innanzi tutto ho amato la protagonista, Binti: si tratta di una giovane appartenente al popolo Himba, un gruppo etnico che vive in Namibia, e che ha deciso di lasciare la famiglia senza la loro approvazione per andare a studiare alla Oomza University, l’università più esclusiva della galassia. Ho adorato il modo in cui Okorafor ha scritto dellə Himba, celebrandone la cultura, ma allo stesso tempo sottolineando la sofferenza di Binti nel vedersi negare dalla famiglia l’opportunità di andare via dalla sua terra in nome della tradizione.
Binti è coraggiosa, ma non è la solita eroina forte che è solo quello e che risulta credibile quanto un cavallo lilla. L’ho …

Ho adorato il modo in cui Okorafor ha scritto dellə Himba, celebrandone la cultura, ma allo stesso tempo sottolineando la sofferenza di Binti nel vedersi negare dalla famiglia l’opportunità di andare via dalla sua terra in nome della tradizione.
Binti è coraggiosa, ma non è la solita eroina forte che è solo quello e che risulta credibile quanto un cavallo lilla. L’ho trovata un personaggio sorprendentemente tridimensionale per una storia di meno di cento pagine e, soprattutto, dotata del coraggio di rompere gli schemi piuttosto che del coraggio di sfoderare un’arma e fare strage di nemici.
In più, Okorafor ci regala un universo fantascientifico molto affascinante e tutto da scoprire: ho già messo in lista anche il secondo, Home.
A novel and ambitious concept, but I felt it might have worked better in a full full length novel, everything felt a little cramped and under-explored in a novella.
