Wuthering Heights is an 1847 novel by Emily Brontë, initially published under her pen name Ellis Bell. It concerns two families of the landed gentry living on the West Yorkshire moors, the Earnshaws and the Lintons, and their turbulent relationships with Earnshaw's foster son, Heathcliff. The novel was influenced by Romanticism and Gothic fiction. Wuthering Heights is now considered a classic of English literature, but contemporaneous reviews were polarised. Mi sono presa un po' di tempo perché, diciamolo: "Cime tempestose" è un mito! Una di quelle opere che sono state, sono e molto probabilmente saranno tra i capisaldi della cultura umana, una di quelle letture da molti considerate imprescindibili, uno di quei libri-mattoni con cui si edifica la letteratura mondiale. Ma, proprio come un mattone, può risultare pesante. Una pesantezza che poco o nulla ha a che vedere con la negatività: voglio dire, non necessariamente tutto ciò che è pesante è noioso, o brutto, o indigesto. Pesante è anche ciò che è solido, ciò che è persistente e resistente, ciò che stabile e sicuro e certo. Come stabile e sicuro e certo è il legame che unisce Catherine e Heathcliff, un rapporto che ho difficoltà a definire amore perché troppo simile all'ossessione e, in un'epoca come questa in cui viviamo, in tempi in cui la parola amore diventa scusa, …
