The Colour of Magic is the first book in the Discworld series and was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.
Non mi è piaciuto. Forse sarà colpa della traduzione italiana, del fatto che letto in inglese Pratchett renda di più, ma l'ho trovato noioso.
Penso che io e Terry Pratchett andremo d'accordo alla grande! Già in questo primo libro si è fatto apprezzare per ironia e immaginazione. Una sintesi di ciò che potrete trovare ne Il colore della magia ce la offre Pratchett stesso all'interno del libro:
Il mondo del disco offre visioni molto più impressionanti di quelle esistenti negli universi costruiti da Creatori dotati di minore immaginazione ma di maggiori attitudini meccaniche.
E così è, infatti: il Mondo Disco è un guazzabuglio di creature che sembrano uscite dalla mente di un bambino (come il baule “mordace”) e che allo stesso tempo hanno lo spessore per essere apprezzate anche dall'adulto. Parodia del fantasy dove gli eroi sono indomiti e salvano fanciulle, vi troveremo Hugh: nerboruto, non particolarmente sveglio e perennemente intento a valutare la ricompensa per i suoi atti eroici.
Che dire poi di Scuotivento e Duefiori, i due protagonisti che danno il via …

Suo malgrado, tuttavia, si ritroverà a fare da guida all'ingenuo e spericolato Duefiori, turista in cerca di avventure. E finiranno in ogni tipo di guaio, compresa una partita a scacchi tra divinità, dove proprio gli ignari mortali sono le pedine da muovere.
Troveremo anche la Morte tra i personaggi, ansiosa di reclamare a sé il povero Scuotivento, che, per tutta risposta, non si presenterà all'appuntamento con lei. Uno smacco terribile per Colei Che Non Si Lascia Sfuggire Nessuno...
Sebbene naturalmente priva di occhi, la Morte osservava scomparire Scuotivento con quello che sarebbe stato un cipiglio, se il suo volto avesse posseduto una qualche mobilità. Benché fosse sempre straordinariamente affaccendata, la Morte decise che ora aveva un hobby. C'era qualcosa nel mago che la irritava oltre misura. Tanto per cominciare, lui non rispettava gli appuntamenti.
Se non fosse la Morte, verrebbe quasi da consolarla...
