Una volta c'era una distinzione tra i libri del Mondo Disco standard e i juveniles (pardon, "Discworld for younger readers"). Ora Pratchett ha deciso che la distinzione non c'è più: in questo trentottesimo libro della saga i personaggi della serie principale qui non fanno solo da comparse, o per meglio dire ci sono personaggi di Ankh-Morpork che diventano coprotagonisti, oltre al ritorno in grande stile della protagonista di Sourcery. Quello che rimane della categoria juveniles è che la protagonista Tiffay Aching è un'adolescente (sedici anni) e l'idea che il libro debba spiegare - nella maniera del Discworld, ma quello uno se lo aspetta - le cose della vita. Il pensiero di Pratchett sulla stregoneria è sempre stato di due tipi diversi: da un lato c'è quella che lui chiama "headology", cioè lavorare dal punto di vista psicologico, dall'altro quella che potremo chiamare magia per mancanza di una spiegazione scientifica. …

La storia si fa leggere bene, come al solito, anche se il finale è piuttosto ovvio.
