Nota: questo libro è anche disponibile in italiano (I numeri non sbagliano mai, tradotto per Ponte alle Grazie da Carlo Capararo) ma io ho letto la versione originale.
Tecnicamente questo libro parla della teoria della probabilità. A volte ci sono anche dimostrazioni, pur con parecchio handwaving, come nel caso del calcolo della percentuale di successo del lancio dell'ago di Buffon - non perdetevela, è fantastica. Ma definirlo così è davvero riduttivo. Ellenberg è infatti riuscito a fare un'opera coerente.che si legge come un romanzo. Qualcuno potrà lamentarsi delle battutine, una triste abitudine dei matematici; qualcun altro potrà lamentarsi di una certa quantità di reiterazione, necessaria per legare le varie sezioni. Ma secondo me in questo caso essi sono dei pregi, proprio per l'unità del risultato finale. Probabilmente non è una lettura troppo semplice per chi non ha un background scientifico, nonostante i disegni appositamente malfatti che mostrano come …

Ma ritengo che valga comunque la pena di leggerlo, per avere un'idea di come non avere torto!
