Grisham esce dai soliti schemi del legal thriller, che effettivamentegli riescono bene, per affrontare una storia più spostata verso lo spionaggio. Meglio che torni al legal thriller. La storia si perde molto sulla descrizione di alcune città italiane che il protagonista visita: Treviso e Bologna. Come fosse una guida turistica. Viene poi però tirato via molto il finale dove la suspence è poca e le sorprese praticamente assenti.
