This book was so wholesome and fun to read! Plus, even before reading the authors note, I knew some of the characters in the book were named after famous, living and dead, LGBT+ authors.

The book is split into three storylines. The present day, where a book is challenged because there might be a gay romance at the end of this fictional book. flashbacks to the author of the banned book as a teen dealing with his first gay love. And finally, excerpts of the fictional in universe book being banned.

I loved it. I love smart kids. I love mature kids. I love kids that are old souls because I was an old soul. I just loved every minute of this book. I started to enjoy the third person POV better that focused on the author and his crushes, but the whole book is very good. It doesn't create generational divide, make fun of someone for being a senior and out of touch and all of that nonsense people do these days. It presents a book challenge in an elementary school happening in real time, and I could not get enough of it.

What I really loved about this book was the fact it showed seniors supporting LGBT+ unconditionally. People today believe that old men and women are just automatically bigots before actually figuring out if they are, or not. I loved it that this book doesn't even entertain that outdated idea.

I honestly think this book was too short! I couldn't put it down. My only gripe was, at the end, the mother that started the book challenge changed her mind, it seemed. David never explains why she changed her mind or what changed her mind.

All in all, everyone should give this a shot. It's something I probably won't read again for a while, but it was so good I vowed to read it again, someday.
